Aetherhaven Wiki

The same guide as the in-game Town Journal, plus Addons and a Crossmod guide for developers.

Getting Started

This page is a short path from an empty spot in the world to a town that earns gold and welcomes villagers.

Start your town

  1. Craft a town planning desk at a workbench.
  2. Use the desk to craft a town charter and a plot placement staff.
  3. Place the charter where you want the heart of the town to be. Your town gets a random name at first. Open the charter later to rename it.
  4. Lyren the Elder appears. Talk to him to begin.

The charter marks your town borders. You can read more about moving or replacing it on the Town charter page under Mechanics.

Your first quest: build the inn

Lyren asks you to raise the inn. In practice that means:

  1. Talk to Lyren and accept the quest. He gives you the inn plot token (plot tokens for building quests come from the quest giver, not the planning desk).
  2. Equip the plot placement staff and stake the inn footprint where it fits.
  3. Bring the listed wood and stone to the plot sign and finish construction.

When the inn is done, an innkeeper moves in. The inn is your first real building and a home base for town records.

How the inn helps

The inn is more than walls and a roof.

  • Visitors can stay for a while. The inn holds up to two guests at a time. The guest list refreshes each morning unless you are working on a visitor quest that locks someone in place.
  • The inn includes a town records shelf where you can check villager needs, invite friends to your town, and review gift history later on.

Read Inn pool and visitors under Mechanics if you want the full picture on guests.

Money and taxes

Your town earns gold coins from a morning tithe. Each villager who counts as a resident pays based on how comfortable they are. Comfortable means their hunger, energy, and fun meters are in good shape.

Tax collection runs while at least one member of your town is online. Open the treasury after you build a town hall to see coins add up and read a breakdown of who paid what.

See Treasury and taxes under Mechanics for feast bonuses, policies, and other ways to earn more.

Town hall and treasury

After the inn is finished, talk to Lyren again. He offers raise the town hall. Build it the same way you built the inn: take the plot token from the quest, use the placement staff, then bring materials to the sign.

The town hall holds the treasury block where your gold is stored. It also has another town records shelf and planning space. You need the hall if you want to deposit, withdraw, and study tax lines in one place.

Who counts as a citizen

Villagers become part of your town in two different ways.

Workplace (required for a job in town)
Build and finish the plot for their job (farm, shop, mill, and so on). Use the management block on that building to assign the villager to the workplace. Until they have a workplace, they are a guest or visitor, not a full resident tied to that job.

House (optional)
A house plot is not required for them to work. If you build a house and register them on it, they can sleep there at night. Sleep refills energy, which also helps the gold they pay each morning. For fun, build a park (see below).

When you are ready to grow, take quest offers from villagers and visitors at the inn. Each new workplace you finish can add another resident.

Tips

  • Build a park if villagers often run low on fun. Park benches are the main way to refill fun. Open Mechanics and read the Villager needs page for hunger, energy, and fun in detail.
  • Talk to villagers often and bring gifts if you want better prices, recipes, and milestone rewards. See Reputation under Mechanics.
  • After the town hall, read Mechanics for the guild hall and guards, quest board, tourist portal, and other mid-game systems.
  • Server hosts can use creative mode tools such as /ah starterkit to skip crafting. That is for testing, not the normal player path.
