Tobin's Pattern Book
Recruit Tobin Reedwright and complete his Artisan Workshop. This is his own prop commission service, separate from the Crafting workplace and Salvaging workplace run by Townsfolk.
Tobin can build any prop he has studied. Talk to him and choose Open your Pattern Book.
- Show him a prop. Carry any prop and choose Show Tobin the props you carry. He sketches every new one into his book and hands them all back. The whole town shares his book.
- Commission a copy. Pick a known pattern and choose Commission one. Props cost simple materials, never gold.
- Collect it. Tobin builds the first prop on his bench during his work hours. Finished props wait on his shelf.
Props Tobin has not seen yet show as a question mark. Cap'n Clive, treasure, gifts and festivals are good places to find new ones.
Materials
Every prop is made from four ordinary resources. Tobin takes them from your pack first, then from the town warehouse.
- Sticks
- Stone Rubble
- Scraps
- Linen Scraps
Gather them as usual, or have Apprentices make them at a Crafting workplace. Their task list includes all four: 5 of any wood makes 10 Sticks, 5 of any stone makes 10 Stone Rubble, 5 of any metal bar makes 10 Scraps, and 10 fibre makes 5 Linen Scraps. The Logger's grove also brings home sticks with every tree, and goblins carry Scraps.
A more valuable prop needs more materials and more time. The kinds it needs follow what it is made of. A plank shelf asks for Sticks and a weapon rack asks mostly for Scraps.
Salvage
Pick a prop you carry and choose Salvage one to have Tobin take it apart. You get half of its materials back, and he learns its pattern if he did not know it. Cancelling a commission returns everything.
Collection goals
- 5 patterns: a third commission on the bench.
- 10 patterns: salvaging returns three quarters of the materials.
- 20 patterns: a fourth commission on the bench.
- 30 patterns: commissions take a quarter less time.
If a commission is waiting
Check the selected pattern, commission capacity, materials and Tobin's work hours. Finished props wait on his shelf until collected. Showing him a prop returns it; choosing Salvage one consumes it for materials.
