The same guide as the in-game Town Journal, plus Addons and a Crossmod guide for developers.

Orin Glasswick becomes available at the Inn at Town Level 5. Complete his Laboratory and return to him to finish his recruitment quest. The Laboratory is available in the Core style.

Open Alchemy and flasks under Mechanics for the complete brewing guide, or Alchemy workplace for queued Townsfolk recipes.

Your first flask

Use the large cauldron inside the completed Laboratory and choose Craft flask. A flask costs 5 Iron Ingots, 5 Light Leather and 5 Tree Sap, taken from your inventory first and then from town storage. There is no recipe to learn. A new flask is empty and holds one charge.

Bring the flask and ingredients to the large cauldron inside the completed Laboratory. Choose an available ingredient from your inventory or town storage. Fill flask bottles the mixture at once as a Good potion.

Hold the brew steady

For a better potion, choose Start brewing first. A brew lasts 10 beats, and each press of a button is one beat. The heat rises by itself every beat. Stoke raises it faster and Stir cools it. A glowing band drifts along the heat gauge, and a beat counts when the heat marker ends inside it. The small arrows show where each choice would put the heat, and the pale outline shows where the band is heading.

  • Good, five or fewer beats in the band: the listed duration and restoration.
  • Great, six to eight beats: lasting effects run 25% longer; Health, Mana and Stamina restoration increases by 10%.
  • Perfect, nine or ten beats: lasting effects run 50% longer; restoration increases by 20%.

Nothing is spent until you fill a flask, so you can brew again as often as you like, and you can stop and bottle a Good potion at any moment. Each extra ingredient in the mixture makes the band narrower and quicker. Orin's Mastery makes it wider. The quality stays with the potion until the flask is empty and is shown on the flask. Changing ingredients starts a new brew.

Bottling discovers the selected ingredients' properties for your town. Health, Mana and Stamina plants restore those resources, with stronger plant tiers giving stronger effects. Some mushrooms provide temporary protection or increase maximum health or mana. Explore their properties at the cauldron. When two ingredients give the same kind of effect, only the stronger effect applies.

Wild flowers are worth trying too. Blue Aloe and green mushrooms heal you slowly over time, with rarer green mushrooms healing more. A Fire Flower keeps fire and lava from harming you for a short while. Lavender and Chrysanthemum make a bug repellent, so scaraks, spiders and scorpions leave you alone until you attack one. The Florist sometimes stocks these flowers.

Each drink consumes one saved charge. An empty flask can be filled again. To replace a mixture before it runs out, choose Empty flask at the cauldron; its remaining potion is lost. If you carry several flasks, use Next to choose one.

Laboratory upgrades

The cauldron begins with one ingredient slot. Open Building upgrades to buy a second slot with Alchemist Mastery 3 and 150 treasury gold, then a third with Mastery 6 and 350 treasury gold. These let you combine different effects in one mixture. Orin earns Mastery XP when you bottle mixtures. You can also train him through his Profile, where each Verdant Catalyst adds one level.

Flask capacity

Upgrade the selected flask at the cauldron. Each purchase adds one maximum charge and keeps the potion already inside. It does not refill the flask.

  • Two charges: Alchemist Mastery 2 and 5 Light Leather.
  • Three charges: Mastery 4 and 10 Medium Leather.
  • Four charges: Mastery 6 and 15 Heavy Leather.
  • Five charges: Mastery 8 and 20 Storm Leather.

Filling a flask consumes one of each selected ingredient per charge. A five charge flask with three ingredients therefore needs five of each ingredient. The cauldron spends them only when the flask is filled.

Apprentice brewing

Orin also supervises Alchemy workplaces. Unlock Alchemy through his workplace controls, mark a site with the Building Staff and provide an Alchemist's Workbench. Paid Apprentices with Alchemy skill can brew queued recipes using ingredients brought by Couriers. Collect these finished goods from the warehouse. Cauldron mixtures use your carried flask and available ingredients from your inventory and town storage. Reserved delivery supplies cannot be spent twice.
