Seren Fairhollow is usually found at the lumber mill when they are on shift.
Mastery and tools
Talk to Seren to train her Mastery with Verdant Catalysts and equip a Hatchet from your inventory. She starts with a Crude Hatchet. Each timber's requirement follows its sapling's Farming Bench tier. Tier 4 needs Iron, tiers 5 and 6 need Thorium or Cobalt, and tiers 7 and above need Adamantite. Higher tools satisfy lower requirements. Each Rootstone tells you when Seren needs more Mastery or a better tool for its tree. See Mastery and training for the full progression.
Quests
Seren's home
Seren wants a roof that is not borrowed from the mill yard, with a bed that is actually hers.
- Take the house plot token from Seren.
- Stake and build the house prefab.
- Assign Seren as resident on the house management block.
- Find Seren and close the quest in dialogue.
Seren's lumbermill
Raise a mill so Seren can turn rings of timber into stacks for the town instead of pacing the common room.
- Take the lumbermill plot token from Seren.
- Stake and build the lumbermill prefab.
- Find Seren at the desk and close the quest in dialogue.
For a dedicated setup guide, open Lumbermill and Singing Grove under Production buildings.
The Singing Grove
Seren grows the town's wood on Rootstones. She gives you two when her lumbermill is finished. Craft more at the Town Planning Desk from stone, Life Essence and fibre.
- Place a Rootstone on open ground anywhere inside your town.
- Use the Rootstone and choose one of the saplings you carry. Turn on Show growing space, then close the window to inspect the tree outline. When you are ready, reopen the stone and press Bind this tree to use one sapling.
- Seren does the rest during her work hours. She plants the tree, sings it tall, fells it and carries everything back to the lumbermill.
The stone then grows the same tree again for free, for as long as you leave it there. Bring the sapling for the tree you want; there is no separate wood unlock to buy. Seren needs the Mastery and Hatchet shown on that Rootstone before she can grow it.
A tree needs space for its roots, branches and every growth stage. Show growing space draws a cyan outline around that space, a yellow outline around the Rootstone and red highlights outside obstructing blocks. Clear solid red obstructions or move the stone farther from nearby trees. Soft grass and bushes do not block growth; solid grass-covered ground still does. The preview updates while you work; for large obstructions, it highlights the nearest 256 blocks first. Reopen a Rootstone and choose Hide growing space to turn it off. Walking far away also hides it.
Open any bound Rootstone or the lumbermill storage, then click a stone card or use Previous and Next to manage the other stones belonging to that mill. The coordinates show which stone you have selected. You can bless it, check its growing space or uproot it from this window. After uprooting, choose a new sapling without visiting the stone again. If its area is not loaded, move closer and press Refresh.
Seren can tend two Rootstones at first. Lumbermill upgrades let her tend up to six, sing faster and store more.
Open the lumbermill's storage block to go straight to the grove, even before binding your first Rootstone. Any bound Rootstone also shows your grove. From there you can also:
- Bless a Rootstone. Spend 5 Life Essence and its next tree gives double wood.
- Uproot a tree. This frees the Rootstone so you can choose another tree or move the stone. A tree that is already standing stops growing and stays where it is for you to chop. Its Rootstone is restored even if the roots had replaced it. A stone that has not been planted yet returns its sapling.
- Collect all. Take everything in the mill stores.
You are free to trim or build around a grove tree. Seren simply harvests what is left of it. Breaking a Rootstone frees it in the same way as uprooting.
The lumbermill only receives wood from trees Seren actually fells and brings home. With no bound Rootstones, it produces no new wood. Anything already stored remains available to collect.

Forest products
Every tree Seren fells gives its wood, one matching sapling, tree sap and sticks. Larger trees give more wood. She gathers the whole harvest as the tree comes down and carries it home in one trip. If her shift ends first, she finishes felling and puts the harvest away before she rests.
Choose Gather fibre on the grove screen if you also want fibre from the leaves.
The mill stores hold a set amount of each item. Seren keeps growing and felling a tree as long as there is room for at least one thing it gives. Whatever does not fit is thrown away, so a full store of one item never stops the rest. She only waits when there is no room for anything from that tree. Use Collect all or upgrade the lumbermill's storage.
Burnt wood
Press Char spare logs on the grove screen to choose one wood from the mill stores. Press again to move to the next wood, and once more after the last to turn charring off. Only the wood you choose is ever used.
At Mastery 4 with an Iron Hatchet or better, Seren chars 5 logs of that wood into 1 Burnt log. Each batch takes fifteen seconds of work beside the mill stores. Production speed upgrades shorten the work.
Place a normal Campfire inside the lumbermill, within two blocks of its stores and no more than one block above or below them. The five logs supply the fuel, so you do not need to add fuel or light the Campfire. Missing logs or a full Burnt wood store pause charring. Logs set aside for couriers are never used.
