Gorruk Stonevein is usually found at the miner's hut when they are on shift.

Open Miner's Hut and mining nodes for core production, or Mining workplace for Townsfolk tunnels.

Mastery and tools

Gorruk's own production requires both his Mastery and an equipped Pickaxe. Talk to him to train Mastery with Verdant Catalysts and equip a better tool from your inventory. He starts with a Crude Pickaxe. Iron needs Mastery 3 and Copper; Thorium and Cobalt need Mastery 5 and 6 respectively and Iron; Adamantite needs Mastery 8 and Thorium or Cobalt. Higher tools satisfy lower requirements. See Mastery and training for the full table. These requirements are separate from the Mining skill used by Apprentices below.

Apprentice mineshafts

Unlock Mining through the Miner's upgrades. Use the Building Staff's Create workplace mode to mark a base area around a regular Workbench, then choose Mining and save. Use that Workbench to open the Mineshaft planner whenever you need it. The staff's Manage mineshafts mode also opens existing mines.

Each map square covers 3 by 3 blocks. The planner shows your base in blue and saved passages in green. Click a base cell near the rock to choose the entrance. Set North, East, South or West, a length from 3 to 30 in steps of 3 blocks, and Level tunnel, Stairs up, Stairs down or Room. Rooms are 9 by 9 blocks and five blocks high. The gold cells preview the draft on the selected floor. Choose Review terrain, then Add reviewed tunnel to authorize digging. Draft changes do not replace existing orders.

To extend a mine, click an existing passage and add another tunnel from it. Branches wait until their connecting tunnel is dug and its carried load is deposited at the base. Stair icons mark both the upward and downward connections on each floor. Use Floor up and Floor down to inspect each walking height. New stairs span seven blocks vertically and need at least nine blocks of length. Plan another stair segment from the end to reach further floors. The map direction controls pan the view. Base floor brings you home.

Enable Mining for an employed, paid townsfolk in the journal. Workers excavate real terrain and carry up to 25 items at Mining 1, plus 10 for each additional Mining level. Higher skilled available apprentices get first choice of work. A miner keeps a partial bag when continuing into another ready tunnel at the same base. They deposit loads in the base workplace output, returning partial loads when work ends or is blocked. Choose Open output storage in the planner, or find the mine under Building Outputs in the Warehouse. Hover over Stored output for a quick summary. Keep the entrance and routes clear and the area nearby. Only the main workplace shows border particles. Couriers collect crafting supplies directly from each mine base. A core mine is not required. Renewable core Miner nodes are separate from these tunnels.

Passages are three blocks wide and three high. Turn support beams, wall torches, ceiling lanterns and rails on or off separately before adding a route. Rails run along tunnels and stairs, but never rooms. Each one takes a single item: Hardwood - Beam, Crude Torch, Lantern or Rail. Posts, corners and ceiling pieces are all made from Hardwood - Beam. The planner shows how many the route needs and how many town storage holds. Put them in General storage at the Warehouse Ledger Desk. Miners take one for each piece they place, after the digging is done. Floor buttons switch between landings. Select a passage or the empty square just beyond its end to extend it at that height. Joined beam corners connect the posts to the ceiling supports. A tunnel can leave any landing or passage at that passage's height, in any direction except back under the stairs it starts from, and two tunnels may cross at the same height. Building plots, water, furnishings and protected terrain are excluded. The planner names what is in the way and where. Squares where stairs or a passage at another height go through the floor you are viewing are drawn in violet, with arrows pointing uphill. A route cannot go through them. If you aim one there, the squares that clash turn red and the planner says how many blocks are in the way and which start, length or direction is clear. When one change fixes it, a button offers it. No support frame is built where two passages meet, and a frame already standing there is taken down and its beams returned. Miners dig whatever they find in a planned tunnel, so placing or breaking blocks there never stops it. They leave a chest or other furnishing standing, dig the rest and finish once it is moved. Stronger ores need greater Mining skill: Iron 3, Silver and Gold 4, Thorium 5, Cobalt 7, Adamantite 9 and Mithril 10.

Select saved tunnels with Previous tunnel and Next tunnel to pause, resume or remove their orders. Removing an order never restores already excavated blocks. Empty its output and finish carried deliveries before removal, and connected branches must be removed before their parent passage. The base uses one Mining workplace allowance; its connected tunnels do not consume more allowances. Existing single tunnels remain available in the planner.

Quests

Gorruk's home

Gorruk wants a proper house off the inn floor, same as anyone else with a plot token.

  1. Take the house plot token from Gorruk.
  2. Stake and build the house prefab.
  3. Assign Gorruk as resident on the house management block.
  4. Find Gorruk and close the quest in dialogue.

Gorruk's miners hut

Give Gorruk a proper shed and bench so he can haul stone and ore without crowding the inn.

  1. Take the miners hut plot token from Gorruk.
  2. Stake and build the miners hut prefab.
  3. Find Gorruk at the workbench and close the quest in dialogue.

Updating an older mine

Existing mines keep their original production until you choose to update them. In Creative mode, aim the Building Editor Staff at your completed mine and press Use to review its new node layout. You must belong to the town and have permission to manage construction.

The review starts with node locations from the currently installed building design. You can also choose Choose cells in this mine to make a local layout, even if the original design has no nodes. Use Mark on plain rock, ore or soil to select a cell. Use Adjust or remove on a selected cell to remove it. Ore previews show your selection, and the staff display shows your current controls. Use Open or confirm to review the plan, or crouch + Back to cancel.

Review each location on the plan, or choose Show in world for temporary markers. The arrows let you inspect every node, including nodes above one another. Local changes apply only to this placed mine and do not change the downloaded building design. Putting the staff away hides the previews. Leaving the mine area, disconnecting or remaining idle for 30 minutes discards the selection.

Apply node layout checks the blocks again and keeps your building, stored resources, selected outputs and purchased upgrades. It does not paste a fresh building. Changed blocks, furniture, storage or a lack of standing space prevent the update. The Miner must work at the nodes to produce resources after conversion. Updating a marketplace download alone never converts a placed mine.

Friendship rewards

Visit them after your friendship reaches each level to pick up the reward through dialogue.

  • Friendship 50: gives you 1 Glow Ring.
  • Friendship 75: teaches the town to craft Glow Rings at a jewelry workplace with Jewelry 5. Choose Browse all plans to find the recipe.
  • Friendship 100: gives you 1 Large Glow Ring.
