Commerce and shop clerks

A Commerce worker serves customers at a player shop during the day. Commerce uses its own skill and priority, with no Apprentice workplace area.

Set it up

  1. Set up a player shop with its counter, sale displays and prices as described in Player shop.
  2. Use the shop's Town Records Shelf to choose a resident Townsfolk as its clerk.
  3. Employ that civilian and enable Commerce on the journal's Work page. They need nonzero Commerce skill and paid wages.
  4. Keep the counter's clerk position and the route to it clear.

The player shop supplies the job. Marking a generic Crafting or other workplace around its counter does not assign a clerk.

If the counter is unattended

Check the shop assignment, employment, Commerce priority and guard duty. Clerks work during the day and still have needs. Other available jobs with higher priority can occupy them.

Commerce does not produce Crafted Goods or add food-support points. Keep the shop stocked and use its own controls to manage sale items. Work priorities and wages covers the worker, while Player shop covers the business.
