Mining

Apprentices excavate real tunnels, stairs and rooms, then carry mined drops back to their base.

Set it up

  1. Recruit the Miner, finish their work building and unlock Mining through their Apprentice workplace controls. You need a free workplace slot under that supervisor.
  2. Use the Building Staff, choose Create workplace, and mark two opposite ground corners inside town. Choose Mining, name the area and save. Include the whole Workbench in its marked area and height.
  3. Employ a civilian Townsfolk with a nonzero Mining skill. On the journal's Work page, enable Mining; priority 1 is highest. Pay their wages and leave a clear walking route.

Use the Workbench to open the Mineshaft planner. Each map cell is three blocks wide. Select a blue base cell or a green passage, choose a direction and a length in three-block steps, then choose a level tunnel, stairs or a 9 by 9 room. Review terrain, then Add reviewed tunnel to authorize permanent digging.

Work and output

Enable Mining for an employed, paid townsfolk. A worker carries 25 items at Mining 1 and 10 more for each additional level. Collect from Open output storage in the planner or Building Outputs at the warehouse. A core mine is not required.

If work is waiting

Use floor controls to inspect connected passages. Seven-block stairs need at least nine blocks of length. Beams, torches, lanterns and rails need their named materials in General storage. Rails are not placed in rooms. Keep entrances clear and check terrain warnings and ore skill requirements. Removing an order does not restore dug terrain; remove connected branches first.

Keep the area nearby and loaded. Workers also take breaks for their needs. Open Apprentice workplaces for shared staff controls, Work priorities and wages for employment, and Warehouse and deliveries for supplies.
