Smelting
Apprentices load furnaces, supply your selected fuel and collect the finished materials.
Set it up
- Recruit the Blacksmith, finish their work building and unlock Smelting through their Apprentice workplace controls. You need a free workplace slot under that supervisor.
- Use the Building Staff, choose Create workplace, and mark two opposite ground corners inside town. Choose Smelting, name the area and save. Include the whole Furnace in its marked area and height.
- Employ a civilian Townsfolk with a nonzero Blacksmithing skill. On the journal's Work page, enable Smelting; priority 1 is highest. Pay their wages and leave a clear walking route.
Add a smelting order on the task page and select its fuel. Put ore and fuel in town storage for a courier to deliver. Furnaces can be loaded in batches; the worker returns when a furnace stops.
Work and output
Use the task page to see what each furnace contains and collect finished goods. Check both ingredient and fuel supplies before adding more orders.
If work is waiting
A furnace needs room for the worker to reach it. Check its current contents, the chosen fuel, storage space and the recipe requirements if an order pauses.
Keep the area nearby and loaded. Workers also take breaks for their needs. Open Apprentice workplaces for shared staff controls, Work priorities and wages for employment, and Warehouse and deliveries for supplies.
